was ah-maze-ing

Left Coast Crime was heaven. Hawaii smells like flowers and the ocean was warm, even on moonlight swims; my cheeks hurt from laughing on the Liars Panel; I learned things that will make me a better writer at the Novel Plotting Panel; and The Reek of Red Herrings won the Bruce Alexander Award (my fourth - I'm only saying that deep inside my own website because it's so braggy. But it's true.). All that an ukulele music too.

Bouchercon NOLA

How much fun is it legal to have?

Well, a bit more actually. I didn't win the Macavity or the Anthony (or Thunderdome, now I think about it) but Bouchercon in New Orleans was so stupendous that not even being a three-time loser made much of a dent in it.

Bloody Scotland 2016

If you haven't yet been to this smashing wee festival (that's not so wee really) there's another one next year. Highlights from this year: Fred MacAuley interviewing MC Beaton; Christopher Brookmyre receiving the first annual William MacIlvanney award from Willie's brother; the daftness of SCOTLAND THE GRAVE; and the unexpected delight of ES Thomson and Oscar de Muriel discussing "The Gothic".
